This is a scan to assess the length and appearance of the cervix as it has been shown that the opening of the internal part of the cervix (funnelling), or the shortening of the cervix, is a good predictor of mid-pregnancy miscarriage and premature labour.
Sometimes a special stitch (cervical cerclage or McDonald Suture) may be advised to help prolong the pregnancy. |
